Congratulations to Zoey, December Student of the Month. Zoey began lessons with me 4 months ago and has been working amazingly hard.

Recently, she prepared “Arabian Dance” from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite for our Christmas Recital on December 20th at St. Margaret’s Church.  She had to prepare herself to perform at her first recital with me under the pressure of a VERY large audience.

I am so proud of her and the work and effort she put into her performance. I can tell already that she is going to be a wonderful classical pianist.

Zoey is in 4th grade this year and is working on her 1st year in piano lessons with me. When Zoey isn’t playing piano, she enjoys art and attends Hebrew School.

Zoey will have her photo on the wall of fame for the rest of the year and she will also receive a $10 Music & Arts gift card to spend on fun music or anything else she wants.

Awards Recital Prog 2014-1

I just don’t know how to express just how PROUD I am of all of my students. They have all worked so hard this year, not only on their pieces, but on all of the requirements of their awards. Many of my students are now able to share their piano talents with others out and about in the community. Three are even playing out as professional accompanists for both Belvedere and Folger McKinsey Elementary School Chorus concerts.

Yesterday we had our end of the school year Awards Recital and it was fabulous. Everyone had a great time hearing all the pieces. Many of the parents commented to me about how nice it was to learn about the composer Claude Debussy and hear 3 of his pieces come to life at our own recital. Colleen gave us all an amazing finale with her performance of the Pathetique Sonata- what a great musical way to end the day.

I can’t wait to see what pieces next year’s recital program will hold!

*correction- Little Shepherd is # 5 of Debussy’s Children Corner Suite

Claire began lessons with me in 2012 and is well into her classical piano studies. She is in 4th grade at Nantucket Elementary. She and I will be playing a fantastic rendition of Disney’s “Let it Go” at our studio’s annual Awards recital next month and she’ll finish her performance with a Scarlatti Sonata.

Claire is a piano teacher’s dream…she practices 45 minutes each morning and another 45 minutes AGAIN each afternoon. She has progressed in her studies at an incredible speed (with that kind of practice, its no wonder!) and will soon be next on my list of choral accompanists- possibly even the youngest ever for my studio.
